Its the middle of July already and time for me to share another block in my Wicked and Wonderful Personal Favourites Modern Sampler quilt. Are you as excited about this as I am?  I hope so.  Meet my newest favourite block, Caledonia!

You can find it by going to visit 627Handworks. Its part of the Block Rock’n Series by Julie Hirt and Holy Heck Hermione its just perfect for my sampler. And did I mention that this is a free download?  Could it get any more perfect…I think not.

As you can see, so far I am keeping my promise of putting solids into every block in this sampler – These pink bits were buried way down at the bottom of the scrap basket and and I had to really dig deep before I found enough of them to add into the block.   Its a  nice bright summery colour, I think and works well with the coral and red stripes.

This block is paper-pieced in four 6 1/2″ sections.  I chose to make it in two colourways, but it would look just as stunning in one colourway — or four,  if you so choose.  This block uses up lots of little scraps and gave me an opportunity to FINALLY use more of the Kaffe Fasset fabrics I have left over from “My dotty Gypsy Wife”.

My summer quilt piecing is going very well.  This week I discovered a new thing. It’s called Pattern Jam and it’s a free quilt design program.  It doesn’t do a whole lot but it does have a fantastic stash available to colour in any quilts you may design.  Here is a sample pic of a quilt I designed in about 10 minutes today.  Don’t be surprised if it actually shows up as a finished quilt some day soon-ish.

I love this block, and the name of your quilt!!! Personally, I like long names so I vote not to shorten it 🙂

I’m liking these blocks you are doing and think the quilt will be very lovely. I look forward to each one of the blocks and have downloaded the patterns for a future project. I love the squiggly quilt pattern you are playing with and hope to see a future quilt with it….and a published pattern!
